Five days and counting. The gifts are wrapped artfully. The tree is trimmed beautifully. And the garland—well, it’s a bit of a bore. No need to fret, our master merchandiser has a few pointers to transform ordinary garland from basic to brilliant. The key to this quick and easy makeover is the technique of course. She recommends purchasing two different strands of inexpensive garland, weaving them together with a strand of lights to add dimension and giving you a luxe look for less.
Next attach a group of decorative ornaments on one side of the garland using short black Zip Ties (you can find them at any home improvement store). Then continue the ornament grouping every 2 to 3 inches, alternating the placement on the garland from one side to the other.
Finally, attach the garland to the bannister with longer clear Zip Ties for the final touch on your holiday decorating! Our expert chose simple balls in gold, but she also recommends varying ornaments in the same colour or mixing 2 to 3 colours of the same ornament. For an eclectic look, use the garland to display vintage treasures or keepsake ornaments from your childhood.
