Welsh born Laura Ashley found inspiration from all around her, but most noticeably in the unrefined beauty of the English countryside. Some 50 years later you’ll still find nature’s influence behind the design, and most often with a contemporary twist that reflects how we live today. Today, our designers keep quite busy creating fresh collections from their busy offices nestled among the streets of Chelsea Harbor in London. Though their escapes to the country may be few, their appreciation of both the city and country life make for lovely marriage in design.

Take a closer look at a favourite design story we call Free Spirit. A casual interior with an urban take on farmhouse chic, this collection combines natural materials and slubby textiles for a look that’s warm and welcoming. Stylized leaves, stripes and checks have an understated flavour in a cool palette of duck egg blue and linen. It suits the relaxed living we wish for at the end of our busy days.
